End of the Rainbow Will Fade From Broadway August 19
End of the Rainbow, the play about the final days of actress Judy Garland will take its final bow on August 19. Though producers had hoped to keep the production open until January, its August closing date was announced this morning. When it closes, the show will have played 176 performances on Broadway.
Though the marquee at the Belasco Theatre will no longer feature End of the Rainbow, this is not the end for the show. As previously announced, the production will travel to Los Angeles for performances from March 12-April 21, 2013. A national tour is also in the works. Additionally, there is the chance for a possible film with Tracie Bennett, who was nominated for the 2012 Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theater World Awards, as well as a 2012 Tony Award nomination as Best Actress in a Play, reprising her role of Garland.
