Kathy Lee Gifford’s Scandalous Moving to Broadway in October
As announced this morning on NBC’s “The Today Show,” Scandalous, the musical written by actress Kathy Lee Gifford, will make its Broadway premiere on November 15. Both the book and lyrics were written by Gifford with music by David Pomeranz and David Freidman. The production is directed by David Armstrong.
Scandalous is based on the life of Aimee Semple McPherson, the world’s first media superstar evangelist. Set in 1920′s Los Angeles, holiness collides with Hollywood in this extraordinary tale of one remarkable woman’s charismatic rise to fame amidst scandalous love affairs and growing controversy, inevitably ending in her much-publicized fall from grace. After playing a try-out performance in Seattle under the name Saving Aimee, ScandalousĀ earned mixed reviews from critics. Caralee Carmello who appeared in Seattle as McPherson will reprise her role while additional casting will be announced atĀ a later date.
